Full Story:
Northern Arizona University this year has joined the ranks of only a few universities to twice receive funding from the Beckman Scholars Program for undergraduate research.
Five sophomores or juniors majoring in biology or chemistry will receive the $17,600 merit-based scholarship, which will be used for two summers and one academic year as a stipend for research activities and travel related to the Beckman Scholars Program.
Winners will be announced in mid-May, selected by an NAU committee comprised of faculty from the chemistry and biological sciences departments.
NAU is one of 13 recipients this year. Others include Yale University, William Marsh Rice University, Trinity University, and Boston College. NAU also received the award in 2001.
The Beckman Scholars Program is sponsored by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports basic scientific research.
