Phoenix attorney Richard Mallery, whose efforts were critical to a booming year for Arizona's genomics industry, was named 2002 Man of the Year by Valley Leadership.

Mallery, a senior partner at Snell & Wilmer, is founding chairman of the International Genomics Consortium, which relocated to Phoenix last year. He also helped to spearhead efforts to generate funding and support for the creation of the Translational Genomics Research Institute, a nonprofit, multi-institutional consortium based in downtown Phoenix.

Mallery will be honored in April along with 2002 Woman of the Year Shirley Agnos, executive director of Arizona Town Hall.
