The Southern Arizona Tech Council plans to disband as an organization and transfer its business development programs to Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities Inc. (TREO).

TREO is a nonprofit organization funded by the City of Tucson and Pima County to facilitate the creation, retention, expansion, and recruitment of high-quality jobs in Southern Arizona. In order to continue the tech council's programs, TREO has established its own tech council consisting of paid staff members and industry leaders.

The Southern Arizona Tech Council began five years ago as a volunteer group that promoted high-tech industry development in southern Arizona. Its programs include Biotech Slam, a spring trade show, and a March conference to help businesses develop websites. The council also distributes half a million dollars in state and federal grants to various industry-cluster organizations.
