Mayo breaks ground on biomedical research building

Representatives from the Mayo Clinic, Translational Genomics Research Institute, and City of Scottsdale were in attendance today as the Mayo Clinic broke ground on the Mayo Clinic Collaborative Research Building, a biomedical research facility to be located at its Scottsdale campus.
The ceremony took place from 11 a.m. to noon, and was by invitation only. Representatives of Hornaday Development, the local real estate development firm that is financing the building, were also present.
As its name implies, the 110,000-square-foot building will be used to facilitate collaboration between Mayo and other groups, including providing research laboratories for a new TGen initiative called the Center for Translational Drug Development, or TD2. It will also include laboratory space for Mayo Clinic and shell space to accommodate future research collaborations.
The Weitz Company of Phoenix will manage construction of the new facility. No cost or estimated completion date has yet been announced.
